I only bought the PS4 to play Spiderman and Red Dead, just recently considered playing the next FIFA on it. I'm just surprised it's even a thing, never considered having to pay more just to use a games basic features. I could buy another game for that amount, no one has a single good reason to pay to play online games.
You don't for PS3, you do for PS4. You need PS Plus to play online, so yeah, you need to pay. Only one account on your system needs to have plus though. My main account has a plus subscription but I can still play online with the other 2 I have.

Go to Solution. Re: How can I play Fifa 22 PS4 version on PS5? The initial install should ask you what version (s) you'd like to add. Scrolling over the game tile and pressing the options button should also show a 'select game version' (or something similar) link.
Yeah you need PS plus to play online. You can play the offline games (squad battles etc.) without one but to play Fut Champs or online draft or rivals you need PS plus. You can thank Xbox for starting that. PS was free before Xbox started charging.
Quick answer would be no, I do not pay to play online with my PS4. I used to have a PS+ subscription which gave me access to Sony’s online / multiplayer network but I used the sub primarily to obtain access to the free monthly games and the additional discount on digital game downloads.
